We have a sad society if this what most kids know, or don't for that matter!

There's a new show called, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Its a new show premiering on March 26th. The past couple years (since having kids really) has made me 'nutty' as Brandon may put it, about the food we eat. I'm very much into getting as much organic, unprocessed food as you can. What we eat has a huge impact on our health and well-being.
I'm not trying gloat or anything about what we eat, but I don't understand how not giving your kids fruits or veggies, really ever, and how them not knowing what a tomato is, is OK!?

People say its too expensive. Yes, it can be. But there are specials every week at most stores on a certain fruit and/or vegetable. And you can't tell me that a bag of baby carrots is that much more, if at all, more than a bag of chips. I find them for $1.99. A bag of Doritos is at least $3.49.

Come on, people!!!! Take a stop in the produce section one day, pick up an apple or something. Which I find for like $.39 to $.69. A candy bar is more than that.

  1. LOL! That's why Food Inc. pissed me off so much. They said burger king was cheaper than healthy food - I say bull.

I wouldn't worry about those kids too much, though - I've worked behind the lens & can guarantee you those kids were probably cherry-picked by producers beforehand for their ignorance.

To walk into any classroom & have not one kid know what a tomato is... it's just not accurate.

You guys should watch the PBS special "To Market To Market To Buy a Fat Pig." You'll like it!

  2. Hi, an old friend of Brandon's here (back in the Kubert School days). I have 3 kids myself, living in Germany. Every 2 or 3 years we travel to the States to visit the family. So as an "outsider" looking at it, I absolutely see the difference in eating habits between here and there. So I totally agree with you. It is sad to see the kind of (junk) food a lot of kids eat there. Of course also the effect this has on their health. Although I don't mean to generalize, I do see many of my nephews/nieces (in the States) with weight and/or health problems. But, I also believe most parents don't even know how to eat healthy....so it's difficult for kids to learn good eating habits.
